From 2005-2010 Madison's Foundation donated 320 overnight backpacks each year to the PICU at St. Paul Children's Hospital.  Each backpack contained items needed for an overnight stay: toothbrush/toothpaste, shampoo/cond, bodywash, deodorant, lotion, chapstick, pen/paper, gum, and snack.  These backpacks were given to the parents who found themselves in the PICU unexpectedly with a child battling a serious illness or injury.

Dear Millington family, What a wonderful charity to donate to & our donation is in the mail. My younger brother Brian is disabled & growing up, he missed out on a lot of playground type activities that would have furthered the development of him & other disabled children. Our deepest sympathies for the loss of your beautiful daughter & sister. May this foundation & all the endeavors it supports be a lasting reminder of your little angel. Steve & Amy Klukas (Matthew's parents)

My daughter, then 12 in 2004, was in intensive care at Children's hospital. She has a Chiari malformation, which meant that she needed to have a piece of her scull removed, a patch of cow tissue was used, and then a couple of her upper backbones were shaved. This meant a 2.5 hour surgery (truly hell) and then she had to lay prone for days with neck muscles that had been cut and on so many IV drugs yet they didn't make a dent in her pain. The first night I stayed in the intensive care parents area and I was given a Madison Claire Foundation backpack with toiletries which had been lovingly prepared for me. I always thought Madison Claire was such a beautiful name and I knew somehow that she must have passed away during her time at the hospital. I thought it was so wonderful how her parents must have initiated the foundation thinking of other parents in similar situations and wanting to comfort them despite their loss. I have kept the bag and started using it again as I bike instead of a purse. It reminds me of how lucky I am that my beautiful daughter has made a full recovery and that I was someone that mattered because I was caring for my daughter in an emotionally and physically exhausting caregiving situation. It made me feel taken care of while I was taking care of my daughter. Of course when you are released from the hospital with your child you continue to take care of them for many days at home. It was one thing that helped remind me that I am not alone and that people can make a difference. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I checked your website and I was absolutely correct in thinking that Madison Claire lived up to her beautiful name. God bless and thank you.
